NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Review

NVIDIA, the company that brings us cutting-edge graphical technology to the realm of computer gaming has a new flagship graphics card that promises more gaming realism and 6x the performance of the previous flagship graphics card. Introducing the new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, currently the most powerful graphics card on the market that has made its entrance to replace the 2-year old GTX 1080 Ti. It will be the first graphics card to feature NVIDIA’s revolutionary ‘Turing’ architecture that replaces the ‘Pascal’ architecture found in the GTX 1080 Ti. Combined together with the all-new GeForce RTX platform, the 2080 Ti provides real-time ray tracing, AI-enhanced graphics and programmable shading. So what does this all mean? Lifelike lighting, reflections, shadows and special effects that will bring a greater level of realism to computer video games that were never before possible.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is a powerful computer hardware standing at 11.57 cm high and 26.67 cm wide. The graphics card has a lightweight frame made from machined-finished diecast aluminum with a smooth and curvy finish. At the top of the device are two 8-pin connectors for providing supplementary power to the graphics card. There is also two new NVLink connectors for connecting a maximum of two NVLink compatible GeForce graphic cards. Operating at a temperature of 89 degrees Celsius, the 2080 Ti will require an efficient cooling system. Two 13-blade fans are mounted on the side to quietly and effectively create enough airflow to cool down the hardware, producing 3x more airflow when compared to a single fan cooling system. A full card vapor chamber is installed to quickly spread the heat generated by this powerhouse to the finstack for release. To the side of the 2080 Ti is a USB Type-C port, three DisplayPort connections, in which one is dedicated for 8K displays at 60Hz, and an HDMI port.

At the heart and center of the RTX 2080 Ti is the powerful GPU manufactured using NVIDIA’s brand-new ‘Turing’ architecture. The GPU consists of 4,352 NVIDIA CUDA cores all working together to deliver stunning, lifelike visuals consistently at 60 fps. A 13-phase iMON DrMOS power supply manages the delivery of power to the GPU and provides enough power for maximum overclocking. When overclocked, the GPU with a base clock speed of 1.35 GHz can be boosted to as much as 1.635 GHz, pushing the engine of the 2080 Ti to its very limit. Incorporated with the ‘Turing’ GPU architecture is the GeForce RTX platform comprising of two other types of cores: RT cores and Tensor cores. ‘RT’ cores simulate the behavior of light to bring about real-time, cinematic rendering to computer gaming by generating over 10 Giga rays per second. The ‘Tensor’ cores brings Artificial Intelligence to computer graphics, running powerful AI algorithms in real time to create crisp, clear images and special effects. Millimeters away from the GPU is 11 GB of high-performance GDDR6 memory chips operating at a speed of over 14 Gbps for high-speed, high-resolution gaming.

The RTX 2080 Ti is ready for the future of Ultra High Definition computer gaming. This powerful monster can output a maximum resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels to support UHD 8K displays. The 2080 Ti is able to render 4k resolution images at an incredible 144 fps and 8K resolution images at 60 fps for smooth gameplay. Images are displayed using 12-bit HDR colors. Displays and monitors can be connected to the graphics card via HDMI 2.0b, DisplayPort 1.4 or USB Type-C and the 2080 Ti has Multi-Monitor support for up to 4 monitors. There is also support for the latest computer graphics APIs such as Microsoft DirectX 12, Vulkan, and OpenGL 4/5.

A new GeForce RTX NVLink is the new SLI multiple graphics card connection delivering up to 50 GB per second bandwidth each for up to 2 connections. Connect one or two NVLink compatible graphics cards together to guarantee a smooth computer gaming experience on the most demanding video games. With such a large bandwidth, the NVLink functionality makes it possible to connect up to 3 monitors together for a 120Hz Surround display providing a wider view of video games at 120 fps. With this much power under the hood, the RTX 2080 Ti consumes 50 W more power than its predecessor, reaching a power consumption value of 260 W. NVIDIA recommends that the 2080 Ti be used in high-end computers running at a minimum of 650 W of power.

A change in flagship for NVIDIA’s graphics cards usually involves a huge leap in graphical processing speed from the previous flagship. But for this new flagship, it’s all about introducing new ground-breaking technologies that will improve graphical performance to deliver a new experience in computer gaming realism. The 2080 Ti is the ultimate graphics card that is expected to push the boundaries of computer graphics forward. This is the must have computer hardware for hardcore gamers who want the best-looking visuals when playing video games on their gaming PC. Video games such as Battlefield V, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries, Hitman 2, Darksiders 3, Final Fantasy XV, and much more games will have support for the 2080 Ti Ray-tracing and AI-powered technology for a more realistic gaming experience. If you want to take full advantage of the 2080 Ti’s capabilities, you are going to require one of the best monitors or displays and one of the best gaming computers.
